What is CBG? Learn About Benefits & Uses

USDA Certified Organic CBG Extract

While CBG is considered a minor cannabinoid there isn’t anything minor about it. Compared to its well known counterpart CBD, CBG is only now starting to get the real hype it deserves. And honestly, it does deserve it!

First things first. What is CBG and where does it come from?

CBG (Cannabigerol) is one of over 100 cannabinoids (or compounds) found in the cannabis plant. CBG is often referred to as “The Mother of all Cannabinoids” because cannabinoids such as CBD, CBDA and THC are converted by the plant from cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), which is the acidic form of CBG. So really, it all begins with CBG.

CBG helps regulate the vital processes in our body where CB1 receptors are dominant. Think brain and nervous system, digestive system, vascular system, and reproductive organs. CBG can be especially good at easing a worried mind, soothing nerve discomfort, or calming a cranky tummy, just to name a few benefits.

CBG works alongside CBD, naturally occurring terpenes, flavonoids and other parts of the hemp plant to bring balance to your endocannabinoid system. Teamwork! We love to see it.

How are CBG and CBD different?

While CBG and CBD are both cannabinoids, they interact with our bodies very differently. For one, CBG may work better than CBD, especially in smaller quantities for concerns connected to nervous system regulation and digestion. This is because CBG connects to CB1 receptor sites directly, while CBD has an indirect effect. This direct connection helps to boost the indirect action of CBD, and vice versa, supporting the receptors through two different mechanisms.

Together, these two cannabinoids are a real power couple, which is why at Upstate Elevator we formulate our CBD beverages, gummies, capsules and tinctures with CBG!

What are the benefits of CBG?

CBG can help support a sense of calm needed to focus*, assist in mood regulation, and may even support recovery from exercise-induced inflammation*. CBG can also work to balance the effects of other cannabinoids such as CBN, CBD, CBDA, and even THC. However, unlike THC, you won’t feel any psychoactive effects from CBG.

When should I use CBG?

Try CBG to help face a hectic day, boost mental clarity or fuel a productive afternoon. In smaller quantities it can also help ease a nervous mind before bed, which is why we reformulated our Peppermint Hemp Extract with both CBG and your favorite sleepytime cannabinoid, CBN.
